The School for Policy Studies at the University of Bristol wishes to appoint to two posts in Criminology which may be either at Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level.
Successful candidates will join an ambitious and collegial School that pushes forward intellectual debates and real-world solutions to a range of policy and social dilemmas within an interdisciplinary environment.
The School for Policy Studies has an exceptional reputation for teaching, research and public engagement. In the 2021 Research Excellence Framework (REF) over 95% of research in social work and social policy was rated world-leading or internationally excellent (Social Work and Social Policy). In the QS World Rankings we are consistently ranked in the top 30 worldwide and top ten in the UK. Our undergraduate programmes in criminology, social policy and childhood studies are consistently top rated in national league tables.
We also deliver a Masters in Public Policy, which attracts students from across the globe, and Masters in Policy Research/Social Work Research. Our policy programmes have a strongly global, comparative and international component.
The appointees will be involved in teaching at all levels – but especially on the BSc in Criminology and contribute to curriculum development. They will take on the role of personal tutor to a quota of students, and supervise post-graduate research students as well as dissertation supervision at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
Beyond being excellent educators, the appointees will work independently and/or in collaboration with colleagues to contribute to the School’s extensive research programme by enhancing our research profile in the fields of criminology and social harm, engaging in externally funded research, and producing high quality published outputs for academic and other relevant audiences.
They will have the ability to work across sub-disciplinary areas and engage with research developments across the School and wider University.
The posts are open to applicants with an interest in a social harms perspective and we would particularly encourage applications from individuals with the following areas of expertise:
Interviews will take place within week commencing 22nd April 2024.
