You’ll be joining an exciting team that’s all about empowering students to make change and supporting the most marginalised students to be heard and campaign. Our Liberation and Campaigns Co-Ordinator will be Bristol SUs expert when it comes to supporting and empowering students from marginalised backgrounds. You might be someone who is passionate about social justice, equality and human rights and you’ll be someone who understands the impact of intersectionality on our experiences. Of course we’re not expecting you to have lived experience in all areas, but you’ll be committed to and focused on liberation for all students, working to enable underrepresented and marginalised communities to get involved and make change.
You’ll be responsible for supporting the SUs liberation focused student leaders. You’ll lead our approach to support and development in this area provide individual support for those leaders and for elected officers. You’ll work closely with others in the Liberation and Campaigns team to ensure diverse representation in our democratic processes and support officers and student organisers to build impactful campaigns around issues that really matter to them. You might be someone who has experience as a community organiser or someone skilled in elevating the voices of those often go unheard.
We’re looking for someone with the passion to support students to find and connect with people who share their experiences. You’ll deliver work that supports our aim to be a progressive union, increasing representation of marginalised groups and empowering students to challenge inequality. You’ll play a key role in ensuring that Bristol SU is meeting the needs of students from a diverse range of backgrounds and lobbying the University to do the same for an improved student experience and a better education.
You don’t have to have worked in higher education or in a students’ union before. But we are looking for someone who is a natural problem-solver with excellent administration skills to help them adapt to a fast-paced environment. You’ll be experienced and confident in working on equity, diversity and inclusion issues. You’ll be passionate about empowering others and giving them the tools to shape their own experiences.
Our team isn’t as representative of our student body as we’d like it to be so we’re particularly keen to hear from you if you’re black, disabled, transgender, working class or have any other marginalised experience. It’s important to us that we diversify our team and that students see themselves represented here.
Role: Liberation and Campaigns Coordinator
Hours: Full Time – 35 Hours Per Week (to be worked flexibly, part-time applicants welcome)
Salary: £25,219 – £28,858 (starting at the beginning of the scale)
Contract: Permanent
