Location: County Hall, Worcester
Salary: £28,522 – £30,289 per annum
Ref: REC#39473
Closing date: 16 June 2023
The Role:
Worcestershire County Council is seeking a Local Nature Recovery Strategy Officer to join our
growing Ecology and Environmental Policy Team. The development of a Local Nature Recovery
Strategy is an exciting time for nature conservation in Worcestershire, home to the Malvern
Hills and Commons, the Wyre Forest, the extensive floodplains of the Rivers Severn and Avon, as
well as a large proportion of England’s remaining lowland meadows and traditional orchards.
This full-time post will lead the development and implementation of the LNRS to help secure
nature’s recovery across the county.
You will have support from colleagues within the County Council and from an established LNRS
steering group and can expect to be working in partnership with a wide range of stakeholders
from different sectors, so stakeholder engagement, collaborative working and communication
skills will be vital. Your knowledge and experience of nature conservation, and its major
policy and legislative drivers in England, will ensure that our LNRS delivers the restoration
of nature through mechanisms such as Biodiversity Net Gain and the new Environmental Land
Management Schemes, as well as more traditional grant funding which you will apply for.
Within the wider Ecology and Environmental Policy Team we also undertake a wide range of
environmental projects and ecological surveys (e.g. preliminary assessments, bats, badgers,
amphibians, reptiles, roadside verge nature reserves) and the LNRS Officer will be able to
support on these, where time and interest permit. We are a small and friendly team with a good
range of specialist interests; we’re looking forward to welcoming new ecologists and widening
our nature conservation work.
