The post will be based at St Jamess University Hospital (SJUH). We also provide outpatient services at Leeds General Infirmary and Wharfedale General Hospital. We are a large yet cohesive department. We provide care for all aspects of gastrointestinal disease to a large local population and receive tertiary referrals into our subspecialty services.We provide high quality endoscopy training and we operate up to 8 endoscopy rooms across Leeds, the majority of which have recently been refurbished with state-of-the-art equipment. We provide a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including bowel cancer screening, ERCP, diagnostic and interventional EUS, advanced EMR/ESD, stenting, wireless capsule endoscopy, double balloon and spiral enteroscopy.Dr Aaron On Consultant Gastroenterologist and Lead Clinician for EndoscopyTel: 0113 2068894Mr Jeremy Hayden Consultant Upper GI Surgeon and Clinical DirectorTel: 0113 2068920Main duties of the jobThe aim of the post is to pursue a specialist interest in ERCP/EUS and to support the pancreatobiliary endoscopy service, whilst also contributing to the growing workload in gastroenterology. The post holder will work directly with four other consultants in providing a tertiary pancreatobiliary endoscopy and medicine service. The post holder will take part in the general gastroenterology inpatient care which is organised on a rotational basis. In the outpatient setting we expect the post holder to help deliver high quality care by providing general gastroenterology and specialist pancreatobiliary clinics each week. In addition, the post holder will be expected to contribute to undergraduate and post-graduate teaching, departmental audit and governance.To link with Consultant colleagues in other relevant site specialist teams within the CSU and across the Trust.To work with colleagues in the gastroenterology department to deliver acute on call (currently 1 in 14) for gastroenterology and hepatology inpatients, including acute gastrointestinal bleeding. This includes both out-of-hours cover in addition to acute ward rounds during normal working hours.To contribute to research, teaching and new developments within the department. We also provide outpatient services at Leeds General Infirmary and Wharfedale General Hospital. We are a large yet cohesive department. We provide care for all aspects of gastrointestinal disease to a large local population and receive tertiary referrals into our subspecialty services.We have two inpatient wards in the modern Bexley wing at SJUH. Both wards have excellent, well established teams of nursing staff and we are well supported by our experienced gastrointestinal pharmacy, dietetic, and radiology colleagues.We provide high quality endoscopy training with JAG accreditation. We operate up to 8 endoscopy rooms across Leeds, the majority of which have recently been refurbished with state-of-the-art equipment. We provide a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including bowel cancer screening, ERCP, interventional EUS, advanced EMR/ESD, stenting, wireless capsule endoscopy, double balloon and spiral enteroscopy, and biliary manometry.Our trainees gain valuable experience in managing complex patients within our subspecialty services. These include a large inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) service (supported by a team of IBD nurse specialists and weekly MDT with our radiologists and IBD surgeons), enteral and parenteral nutrition (PN) (including home PN), small bowel disease, and pancreaticobiliary medicine.There is a strong research background to the unit with our three academic consultants (Prof. Ford and Dr Subramanian). The research unit is based in the Leeds Institute of Research at St Jamess on SJUH site. There are existing research programmes in the molecular biology of colorectal cancer and IBD, and current clinical research projects in IBD, functional gastrointestinal disorders, and endoscopy.There are close links with the Clinical Research Network.
