NHS National Services is a unique national health board providing services to NHS Scotland. We are seeking a passionate and experienced candidate to lead and develop our services supporting Scotland’s digital infrastructure used by clinicians throughout Scotland every day.
As Medical Director (Digital), you will be a member of NSS Clinical Directorate, helping to shape NSS’ clinical services, clinical governance and assurance, and supporting diverse clinicians in their work across all NSS directorates.
You will bring your specialist focus on digital development and delivery for health and care services to champion clinical ownership of the digital transformation agenda across NHS Scotland users of our platforms and services. You will support clinical informaticians and digital experts to ensure positive outcomes for patients and practitioners through well designed, safe and effective digital resources.The Candidate:
The Medical Director (Digital), as a clinical advisor to the DaS Senior Management Team, will achieve outcomes in the following key result areas:

• Provide clinical leadership expertise across the spectrum of clinical care, underpinned by a broad and deep knowledge of eHealth/Digital and IT systems in the health sector.
• Provide clinical leadership support to professionals providing Clinical Informatics guidance on the design, development and ongoing operation of safe, effective and efficient clinical health information systems to support and improve health & care delivery.
• Take responsibility for clinical governance, clinical risk management and assurance activity across the DaS Directorate, including at the early stages of healthcare software design, implementation and on-going monitoring and management.
• Ensure the principles of value-based health care underpin digital design, development and delivery.
• Ensure that the clinical functions within the DaS Directorate meet the highest possible professional standards and any required regulations or legislation.
• Provide clinical leadership, and engagement with heath and care professionals, developing and maintaining relationships and communications to ensure the focus is on understanding and meeting user needs of digital programmes and innovations.
• Develop and maintain a strong working relationship with NHS Board Medical Directors, E-Health lead clinicians, their deputes, and with senior clinical colleagues in Scottish Government.

As Medical Director – Digital you will have

• Significant experience in a senior medical management role within a complex healthcare environment.
• Proven ability to lead clinical governance, manage clinical risk, and drive continuous improvement in healthcare services.
• Exceptional communication and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively at local, regional, and national levels.
• A strong understanding of the NHS in Scotland, including policies and regulations relevant to the delivery of healthcare.

Candidates must have current GMC registration at the time of applying.The successful candidate will be required to undergo a PVG Scheme check. Any candidate who have lived/worked overseas for more than 12 months in the preceding 5 years will also be required to provide a criminal record check from the appropriate overseas agency.
Location and Working Pattern:
This post will be based in Gyle Square, Edinburgh or Delta House, Glasgow.
Currently hybrid working.
The work pattern for this post is Monday to Friday, 8 sessions per week.It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with NSS.Benefits:
