This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of scientific leadership within a leading pharmaceutical company committed to innovation, integrity, and inclusion.Position SummaryThe Medical Lead (ML) will report directly to the Country Medical Affairs Director. The ML will lead the scientific strategy and execution for their assigned therapeutic area, working alongside the MSL Manager and respective teams. The ML will be a key scientific voice internally and externally, contributing to medical strategy, insight generation, and cross-functional collaboration. ML will be an integral part of and core member at the brand team (BT) levelKey ResponsibilitiesStrategic & Scientific Leadership

  • Lead, develop and being accountable of country-level medical strategy execution in alignment with global and regional priorities.
  • Serve as the medical expert and reference point in the therapeutic area, providing strategic input across functions and particularly at the Brand Team (BT).
  • Ensure scientific engagement is tailored to strategic and business goals, addressing unmet medical needs and contributing to lifecycle management.
  • Represent the company internally and externally as a credible and respected scientific leader among TLs, HCPs, and other internal or external stakeholders. The ML should represent country voice at the key WW forums like WWBT or Asset Indication Medical Strategy (AIMS).
  • Establishes strong relationships with key country thought leaders, physician groups and national professional societies and utilizes those relationships to strengthen BMS image, competitive position, and performance.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Actively contribute to the BT, working in close partnership with the Brand Lead to co-create strategy and ensure executional excellence.
  • Collaborate with Regulatory, Market Access, Commercial, Legal, and Pharmacovigilance teams to provide scientific insight and drive integrated planning.
  • Lead the development and implementation of the Medical Plan, ensuring consistency and alignment with broader business goals.

Medical Operations & Knowledge Generation

  • Be a key partner in the implementation of country data generation plan, as an integral part of brand/indication strategy and ensuring the delivery of BMS clinical trials in strong partnership and collaboration with RCO.
  • Coordinate country medical communication through the publication of local study results in relevant congresses and peer-reviewed journals, as well as by designing a high-quality medical education plan.
  • Ensure and promote the generation of high-quality insights from external interactions and data analysis to inform BT strategy.
  • Maintain and cultivate a breath and deep knowledge of treatment landscape, clinical guidelines, and evolving medical and scientific trends.

Team Leadership & Culture

  • Lead, coach, and develop the Disease Area Specialists (DAS), fostering high performance and scientific excellence.
  • Create an inclusive and empowering team culture that values innovation, continuous learning, and collaboration.
  • Set clear objectives and development plans, conducting regular performance reviews and mentoring team members.

Compliance & Governance

  • Ensure adherence to internal SOPs, GCP, ICH, and ethical standards across all medical activities.
  • Oversee the team’s readiness to identify and report adverse events and contribute to safety-related communications.
  • Collaborate with relevant functions in the review of promotional and non-promotional materials to ensure scientific accuracy and compliance.

Qualifications

  • PhD in life sciences is required; MD strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership of high-performing teams.
  • Extensive Experience in Medical Affairs within the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Proven ability to work in matrix organizations and lead without authority, exemplifying DAI approach.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and execute effectively.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish is required; Portuguese is a plus.
  • This role will be based at HQ BMS affiliate office
