This role is ideal for individuals with experience in mental health support, SEN education, psychology, youth work, or social care. If you are committed to making a tangible difference in the lives of young people experiencing emotional and behavioural difficulties, we would love to hear from you.About the Role:As a Mental Health Support Worker, you will play a crucial role in assisting students with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, ensuring they receive the guidance and support required to succeed both inside and outside the classroom. You will work closely with students who may be struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, or other complex needs, offering interventions that promote emotional well-being, resilience and positive coping strategies.Responsibilities of Mental Health Support Assistant:

• Provide one-to-one and group support to students experiencing mental health difficulties.
• Assist students in developing coping mechanisms, emotional regulation strategies and resilience.
• Support students in managing anxiety, self-esteem and social interactions in an educational setting.
• Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment where students feel valued and understood.
• Work closely with teachers, SEN coordinators and external support services to implement individual support plans.
• Encourage and promote emotional well-being and positive mental health awareness among students.
• Assist in de-escalating challenging situations with patience, empathy and effective behaviour management techniques.
• Uphold safeguarding and child protection policies, ensuring students’ safety and welfare.

What We’re Looking For: To be considered for this role, you must have:

• Prior experience working with children or young people with mental health challenges or additional learning needs is highly desirable.
• A background in psychology, counselling, education, youth work, or social care is advantageous.
• Strong understanding of mental health conditions, behaviour management strategies and therapeutic approaches.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships with students.
• A patient, compassionate and non-judgmental approach to supporting students with emotional difficulties.
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond effectively to challenging situations.

• Have the right to work in the UK.
• Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from the last two years.
• Have an enhanced DBS certificate registered on the update service or be willing to apply for a new one through GSL Education.
