Boulevard Louis Pasteur, 31.DescriptionDr. Prof. Silvana Teresa Tapia Paniagua, Associate Professor in the Department of Microbiology and a research member of the Research Group on Host-Microorganism Interactions and Biotechnological Applications at the University of Málaga, is seeking candidates to prepare and submit a proposal for the 2025 MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship (PF) call, in the field of host-microorganism interactions and probiotics.About the supervisor:Dr/Prof. Silvana Tapia is an experienced researcher with an extensive background in microbiology, particularly in host-microorganism interactions and biotechnological applications. She has authored numerous scientific publications and has led several research projects in collaboration with industry partners, demonstrating strong links between academia and the private sector. Prof. Sánchez also coordinates educational and outreach activities, including courses aimed at diverse audiences and public science engagement initiatives. She regularly supervises PhD theses, as well as undergraduate and master’s research projects, providing a solid and supportive environment for early-career researchers. The research group is active in multidisciplinary studies and has achieved notable contributions in the field of probiotics and microbial interactions, offering excellent training and development opportunities for postdoctoral fellows.About the research topics:For over 25 years, the research group has focused on studying microbiota modulation through functional diets, with a strong emphasis on the isolation and characterization of probiotics and the production of postbiotics. The group investigates how these compounds influence microbiota composition and host responses at the genetic, proteomic, and metabolomic levels across different host models. Research has been conducted using various animal models, primarily fish and mice, and is complemented by collaborations with clinical units in hospitals to explore microbiota-related alterations associated with human pathologies. In addition, the group has isolated bacterial strains with high biotechnological potential, particularly those capable of producing compounds of interest to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. This research environment offers postdoctoral candidates a wide range of opportunities for scientific and career development in microbiome science, host-microorganism interactions, and translational microbiology.
