Dr. Pablo Otero, director of the Institute of Oceanic Engineering Research (IIO) of the University of Málaga is looking for candidates to prepare and submit a proposal to the 2025 MSCA PF call in the field of Oceanic Engineering.The Institute of Oceanic Engineering Research (IIO)The Institute of Ocean Engineering Research of the University of Malaga, IIO, is inspired by what the European Union has called “blue growth”, which is “…a long-term strategy to support sustainable growth in the marine and maritime sectors. It recognizes the importance of the seas and oceans as drivers of the European economy because of their great potential for innovation and growth. It is the contribution of the Integrated Maritime Policy in achieving the objectives of the 2020 Strategy for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth.”A post-doctorate at the IIO means, on the one hand, a continuation of the specialization and, on the other hand, an opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary environment.From the point of view of career opportunities, the postdoc stay can lead to finding a position in a university or research center but also in industry, as the IIO has a strong engineering component.The research group:The Institute of Oceanic Engineering of the University of Malaga brings together 23 PhD researchers working in the aforementioned fields. They are mainly engineers and scientists specialized in topics related to the sea or that have to operate in the severe conditions that mean salinity, the need to operate on board ships or submerged.The researchers have extensive experience in these fields. More details can be found on the IOI website ( ) or in the publications of its members in international scientific and technical journals.Research topics:The Institute of Oceanic Engineering Research (IIO) is looking for fresh PhD that might be interested in pursuing a research career in any of the following lines:

• Underwater communications and positioning. There are currently no effective or wide coverage underwater positioning systems. An IIO group is working on providing solutions to the problem based on underwater acoustic communications.
• Physical oceanography. Hydrodynamic models for characterization of general marine circulation patterns.
• Metallurgy for marine environment. New alloys and welding techniques less exposed to corrosion in marine environments.
