An exciting opportunity has arisen for 1 consultant to join the current team of neonatal consultants in our unique new sub-regional neonatal intensive care unit (SuRNICC) for North Wales. The £18million unit is based at Glan Clwyd Hospital in the centre of North Wales near St Asaph. The unit operates as an enhanced local neonatal unit and will consist of 6 intensive care cots, 6 HDU cots and 8 special care cots.The North Wales Neonatal Network consists of 3 units: 2 Special Care Units in Bangor and Wrexham that accept stable babies
32 weeks gestation and the SuRNICC at Glan Clwyd Hospital. The unit at Glan Clwyd will be at the heart of the North Wales Neonatal Network. The birth rate in North Wales currently stands around 6500 births a year and the network will care for all babies born at 26 weeks and above. The local Neonatal Transport Team is based at Glan Clwyd and successful applicants will be expected to share the Transport activity. Neonatal Transport is provided 12 hours /day, 7 days a week. There is a close collaboration with the neighbouring Cheshire and Merseyside Neonatal Network which provides the care for babies less than 26 weeks of gestation. The successful applicant will be expected to take a full share in the 1:7 designated non-resident sole neonatal consultant on call rota.Main duties of the jobThe unit is supported by a neonatal Tier 1 rota as well as a group of 5 ANNPs and paediatric tier 2 cover. The posts are suitable for candidates with a neonatal CCT as well as general paediatricians with a special interest in neonatal.The SuRNICC covers an area spanning from Wrexham in the East to Anglesey in the West.North Wales also has three general paediatric departments with full outpatient services in all three DGHs. The pursuit or development of a special interest as well as research activity will be supported. The post is based on a 10-session contract and the successful applicant will be working according to the Welsh Consultant Contract which is based on 7 DCC and 3 SPA sessions.We are a busy and cheerful department with a clear emphasis on delivering top quality care to our local children and families. There is close joint working between consultants and the specialist neonatal nursing team, and good support for junior medical staff. We have excellent working relationships with our general paediatric and community colleagues, and with the tertiary centre specialist services at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool.   • CCT (Paediatrics) with Special Interest (SPIN) module in Neonatology or substantial experience or training of at least 2 years in the field of neonatology
  • Full GMC registration
  • or eligible for CCT in Neonatology or Paediatrics with Neonatal interest within 6 months of date of interview (CCT or equivalent must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC)
  • or a statement of eligibility for registration issued by PMETB e.g., CESR certificate.
  • MRCPCH or equivalent
  • Valid Level 3 Safeguarding Training
  • NLS provider course

Desirable

  • MSc, MD, PhD or equivalent higher degree
  • CCT with sub-specialty neonatal training (NTN grid scheme)
  • Advanced Paediatric Life Support (provider course)

ExperienceEssential

  • Evidence of working effectively as a part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Working as part of the management team
  • Experience of liaison with other agencies eg child protection agencies
  • Experience of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
  • Evidence of initiating, progressing and completing audit
  • Experience of working in regional and sub-regional neonatal units and evidence of subspecialty interest within neonatology, commensurate with consultant skills.
  • Experience of neonatal transport
