Our Functional Neurosurgery program requires an (associate) professor who is going to be the clinical leader of the Brain-Computer-Interfacing (BCI) program. Our center is making strategic investments in BCI research and aims to expand clinical applications. We expect that the candidate will take responsibility, enhance clinical applications and build bridges with basic BCI scientists within our research network. In terms of clinical activities, the candidate is expected to perform epilepsy surgery at an academic level (including resections, stereo-EEG, and vagal nerve stimulation).The successful candidate will have a track record in Neuroscience (preferably a Neuroscience PhD) and Functional Neurosurgery research with constant publication output and funding experience. The candidate has an (inter)national network, is a team player and complies with the Netherlands Code of Conduct for Research Integrity. Candidates who do not speak Dutch will be expected to learn the language and achieve sufficient proficiency in Dutch in order to obtain the Dutch medical registration within reasonable time. We offer a tenured academic position within our center with excellent primary and secondary employment conditions. Academic time for the development of research and education programs will be provided.Clinical Responsibilities: the candidate is expected to perform epilepsy surgery at an academic level, including resections, stereo-EEG, and vagal nerve stimulation.What does your work environment look like?The Brain + Nerve Center (HZC) is a collaboration of specialties focused on patients with complex disorders of the brain and/or nervous system.In the HZC, specialists from the following medical fields work together:Neurology/ Pediatric neurologyNeurosurgeryPsychiatryPsychologyClinical NeurophysiologyENTAudiologyThe ANCL is a network organization and provides neurosurgical care in an academic center (Maastricht University Medical Center: MUMC), the largest non-academic peripheral hospital in the Netherlands (Zuyderland Heerlen/Sittard-Geleen), one medium-sized teaching hospital (VieCurie Venlo) and two smaller regional hospitals (Laurentius Roermond and St. Jans Gasthuis Weert). The research activities are focused on Neuroscience and Spine. Neuroscience research is based in the MUMC and is performed within the research institute Mental Health and Neuroscience (MHeNs). The ANCL has 18 neurosurgeon staff members and five tenured scientists.The ANCL is one of the largest neurosurgical centers of the Netherlands and in terms of scientific output, one of the most productive neurosurgical centers of Europe. Within our strategic area of neuromodulation/ neurotechnology we are at the forefront of Brain-Computer-Interfacing for speech and action decoding and translational research in advanced and adaptive deep brain stimulation.
