We are offering a PhD fellowship in orthodontics, oral physiology and sleep medicine commencing 1st September 2025.The overall aim of this project is to examine treatment effect and side-effects between Mandibular Advancement Device (MAD) and Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) treatments in patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA).The specific aims of the project are to:
Project descriptionThe primary treatment options for OSA patients are CPAP and MAD. CPAP treatment is superior to MAD treatment, but many patients cannot tolerate CPAP treatment and seek MAD treatment. MAD treatment effect varies because of differences in patient selection and control of MAD-treatment. The aim of the project was therefore to compare treatment effect of MAD and CPAP and examine the significance of upper airway and craniofacial morphology for MAD and CPAP treatments effect and eventual side-effects of the treatments. The project involves a 4-year interdisciplinary, randomised, blinded, prospective longitudinal crossover study including 70 OSA patients. The project can contribute to identifying which OSA patients will benefit from MAD treatment which is extremely important for the individual patient and socio-economically.Our group and research

Applicants must have qualifications corresponding to a master’s degree in Dentistry (DDS) and must be able to communicate in Danish/Scandinavian, as all patient records are required to be kept in Danish/ Scandinavian. Please note that your master’s degree must be equivalent to a Danish master’s degree (two years).Other important criteria are:
Place of employmentThe place of employment is at the Department of Odontology, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week (full time, 3 year duration), or 27.75 hours per week (part time, 4 year-duration).The position is limited to a period of 3 years (full time) or 4 years (part time). The start date is 1st September 2025.The employment is conditioned upon the applicant’s successful enrolment as a PhD student at the Graduate School at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. This requires submission and acceptance of an application for the specific project formulated by the applicant.The PhD study must be completed in accordance with The Ministerial Order on the PhD programme (2013) and the faculty’s rules on achieving the degree.Salary, pension and terms of employment are in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Taxation and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State. Depending on seniority, the monthly salary starts at approximately 30,800 DKK/Roughly 4,100 EUR (April 2025 level) plus pension.Questions
