Job Description:Grade UE06: £33,882 – £39,105 per annum, depending on experience.The Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, Jeanne Marchig International Centre for Animal Welfare EducationFull-time: 35 hours per weekFixed-term: for 30 monthsThe Opportunity:We are seeking a motivated post-doctoral researcher to join our animal welfare team to work on a project investigating welfare in racehorses. The post will require the use of behavioural assessment techniques on commercial racing yards, and engagement with a variety of stakeholders working in racing.This post is full-time (35 hours per week); however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns. We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working.Your skills and attributes for success:

  • A PhD in a relevant topic, or nearing completion (e.g. veterinary medicine, animal behaviour, animal science)
  • Experience of working with large animals, preferably horses
  • Some understanding or knowledge of the UK racing industry and a willingness to work in this environment
  • Previous experience of working with diverse stakeholder groups
  • Some previous experience of research in animal behaviour or welfare would be an advantage
