Offer Description

To carry out a research project concerning the application of the method of SPH (Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics) to the case of porous media.

– To understand and complete the theoretical formulation of the method of SPH (Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics) in the case of a biphasic medium
– Implementation of the formulation (write a computer program based on a version on monophasic media)
– carry out a validation study
– Write a paper for submission to a scientific journal

The research will be carried out in the LTDS laboratory (https://www.ec-lyon.fr/ltds-laboratoire-tribologie-dynamique-systemes ). This laboratory has a staff of about 300 people, and its research is divided into 4 areas: (1) Tribology (2) Dynamics of structures and systems (3) Mechanics of materials and processes (4) Geomaterials – Geoenvironment, each of which corresponds to a research team. The staff are distributed among 3 sites: (A) Central School of Lyon in Ecully (B) National School of Engineers of Saint-Etienne (C) National School of Public Works of the State (ENTPE: https://www.entpe .Fr/). The proposed research topic is part of the research themes of the fourth team. The candidate will carry out the work at ENTPE in VAULX-EN-VELIN (site (C)), under the supervision of a senior researcher from Team (4), more specifically in the GCD group (https://www.entpe.fr/ laboratory-of-tribology-and-dynamics-of-systems-ltds). Due to his experience already acquired within the framework of a doctoral thesis, teh candidate will assume a large autonomy in the organization and the realization of his work.

Eligibility criteria

– A deep undertanding of continuum mechanics and poromechanics theories
– Competence on numerical methods applied to solid mechanics (finite elements, finite differences)
– Competence on scientific programming and the FORTRAN language
