Post-Doctoral Researcher, School Of Food and Nutritional Sciences
Offer Description16 Months, Fixed-Term,Position SummaryCandidates are invited to apply for a vacant Post-Doctoral Researcher position at University College Cork, Ireland. The Post-Doctoral Researcher will work on a project funded by The Good Food Institute that intends to develop an innovative approach for downstream processing of precision fermentation biomasses. The approach relies on the possibility of partitioning different molecules between the two phases of Aqueous Two-Phase Systems (ATPS). The characteristics of the two phases will be tailored on the separation needs of a specific starting biomass, and at the end of the process the two phases spontaneously separate (no filtration or centrifugation needed). The process will be consecutively repeated using different combinations of phase-forming components yielding fractions of different compositions and purities. Polymers used to make the two phases of the extraction system can be separated from the cell proteins and the other valuable components simply by changing the temperature and reused indefinitely. The ATPS are easy to scale up and they have the potential to become an approach for green and efficient downstream processing of cell biomasses. The successful applicant will work with Dr. Ashkan Madadlou in the School of Food and Nutritional Sciences, UCC, Ireland, in collaboration with the Food Quality and Design Group of Wageningen University and Research in the Netherlands.Competence in chemical process development, and large-scale fractionation techniques would be particularly valuable. However, applications from candidates who can document relevance of their skills and experience to the project are also welcome.Project Title: Aqueous two-phases systems for a green and efficient downstream processing of the cell biomass obtained by precision fermentationPost Duration: 16 Months, Whole-Time PostSalary: €44,847 – €51,313 per annum, IUA PD1 ScaleFor an information package including further details of the post see .Informal enquiries can be made in confidence to Dr Ashkan Madadlou, Senior Lecturer, School of Food & Nutritional Sciences; Email:Where to apply WebsiteRequirementsSkills/QualificationsRole DescriptionThis title will apply to newly qualified Post-Doctoral Researchers and will be considered as a period of training as the researcher will have dual goals in terms of the research project and their own career development.
