Offer DescriptionThis position is open in the Robotics, Action and Perception team (RAP, ) of LAAS-CNRS, in Toulouse, France. The research of the RAP team concerns the design, prototyping, implementation and evaluation of algorithms for: visual perception; sensor-based control and navigation; interactive mobile manipulation; multi-sensor data modeling and fusion. The recruited postdoctoral researcher will work in close collaboration with the permanent staff and doctoral students of the team on current and future projects related to SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) in Robotics.The tasks of the recruited person will concern the design, prototyping, implementation and evaluation of a new SLAM back-end. The focus will be put on the following points:
o extensions of the theoretical framework recently developed in the team: incorporation of absolute localization sensors (GNSS…); approximate solution for large-scale problems; joint estimation of sensor biases; incorporation of new types of loop closures; etc.
o incorporation of these new functionalities in the existing software prototype.
o development of a software library (C++ or Rust).
o real-life large-scale experiments on robots; benchmarking w.r.t. emblematic back-ends of the literature.This work will take place in the Robotics Action Perception team, within the Robotics Department of LAAS-CNRS, Toulouse, France.
The gross monthly salary is between €2,991 and €3,417 depending on experience.

The expected skills for this position are:
o Very good theoretical and practical knowledge of SLAM.
o Mastery of prototyping and programming languages: MATLAB, Python, Julia, C, C++, Rust.
o Practical experience on robotic platforms.
o Autonomy, teamwork.
