The Ravnsbæk Groups at the Department of Chemistry, Aarhus University, is seeking a candidate for a 24 month postdoctoral position.You will join the project BeyondBetterLibs, which concerns the development of novel fluorine free, water-processable binder formulations for Li-ion battery electrodes.The position is available from 1 June 2025 or as soon as possible hereafter.In the project you will develop novel zwitterionic polymeric binders for battery electrodes, explore water-based routes for electrode preparation and investigate the microstructural, mechanical and electrochemical properties of the zwitterionic polymeric binders. The work will entail polymer characterization, electrode casting, electrochemical characterization, microstructural investigations using spectroscopy, electron microscopy, X-ray tomography etc. The project is a collaboration between BioModics ApS, LiFeSiZE AB, Uppsala University, Aalborg University and Aarhus University.Besides the experimental and analytical work, you will also be expected to present your work at conferences, write scientific papers for publication of the results in scientific journals and co-supervise younger students.Your profile

  • You have a strong background in inorganic chemistry, polymer chemistry, physical chemistry, electrochemistry or battery research.
  • You hold a PhD in chemistry / chemical engineering / materials science / physics or a related topic.
  • Preferably you have experience in battery related research.
  • Preferably you have strong communication and writing skills.
  • You are a team player but also do not mind working independently
  • You have a strong drive for scientific discoveries.

Who we are/ The department The Department of Chemistry at Aarhus University (www.chem.au.dk) is one of the leading European chemistry departments with a broad research programs. It has a permanent staff of ~30 full and associate professors, a support-staff of ~30 people, ~150 PhD-students and postdocs and around 400 students.The Ravnsbæk Group consists of ca. 15 postdoctoral, PhD and master students, who are working on different aspects of battery science. The group is led by Prof. Dorthe Ravnsbæk. The group resides in laboratories fully equipped for inorganic synthesis, battery fabrication, electrochemical analysis, structural and chemical characterization and physical property characterization.Place of work The place of work is Langelandsgade 140, 8000 Aarhus C, and the area of employment is Aarhus University with related departments.All interested candidates are encouraged to apply, regardless of their personal background.
