Job Description:

We are looking for a dynamic and innovative postdoctoral researcher to contribute to the development of a professional solar cooking stove, as part of an AMIDEX funding program. This project, carried out in collaboration with the restaurant “Le Présage” and the IUSTI laboratory, aims to develop a prototype and a sizing tool for cooking devices using solar energy and making maximum use of low-tech technologies.

Project description:

Le Présage is the first restaurant concept in Europe where the energy required for cooking is produced locally, where part of the food production is integrated into the restaurant, and where the waste produced by its activity is recycled on site. The bioclimatically-designed building will preferentially use solar energy to cover its needs. In this context, Le Présage and IUSTI are collaborating to design a solar cooking system that is less dependent on the intermittency of the resource, using energy storage. To achieve this, an experimental set-up including a Scheffler-type concentrating dish and a furnace is being developed and modeled at the IUSTI laboratory. The aim of this experimental bench and associated modelling is to improve the prototype developed by Le Présage, since the entire system needs to be as optimized and ergonomic as possible to enable it to be properly integrated into a gourmet kitchen, while complying with current standards.

Description of tasks:

The postdoc will be responsible for designing and building the optimized furnace. He or she will test the prototypes in the laboratory and in a real environment. He or she will also be responsible for developing a sizing and control tool for the complete system.

Skills/Qualifications

Required skills:

•             PhD in solar energy and/or thermal engineering.
•             Solid skills in experimentation, testing and measurement of energy performance.
•             Experience in modeling and sizing solar systems.
•             Experience with Scheffler-type dish systems and model reduction skills would be appreciated.
•             Modeling skills with Soltrace and Matlab software would be a plus.

Benefits

Starting date and salary:

The postdoctorate will start in spring or September 2024. The duration is 15 months. Remuneration is set by the university and depends on professional experience (~2000 to 2300 €/month).
