The Department of Biomedicine at Faculty of Health at Aarhus University invites applications for a position as Postdoc in the field of Tanycytes and Imaging as per 1 September 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a fixed-term full-time position for 30 months.The Department of Biomedicine prioritises diversity and a good work environment, as this is a prerequisite for groundbreaking research. The Department of Biomedicine focuses on innovation, entrepreneurship and collaboration with business and industry, and numerous researchers from the department have established companies to develop new medicinal treatments founded in professional scientific basic research. You can read more about the department and about the faculty .About the research projectThe vacant position is supported by funding for two distinct projects, linked by the methodologies employed.Phase 1 (12 Months): The work will focus on establishing a tanycytic model using primary cells isolated from mice. This model will be utilized to image the polarized transport of fluorescent hormones and proteins, aiming to describe receptor-mediated transcytosis into the brain. If feasible, multiphoton imaging in living mice will be conducted to visualize this transport in vivo.Phase 2 (18 Months): The focus will shift to complex organoid lung models as part of an EU consortium dedicated to rare disease research. The aim will be to develop an automated smart imaging pipeline for organoids, specifically targeting budding events in the growing organoids.Your job responsibilitiesAs a Postdoc involved in these projects, your position will be primarily research-oriented, with the possibility of teaching assignments. You will contribute to the department’s development through high-quality, internationally recognized research and publications. Collaboration with colleagues on your project will be integral, with ongoing supervision and guidance provided.Your main tasks will consist of:

  • Independent research of high international quality, including publication.
  • Isolating tanycytes from mice and cultivate them the in Transwell models.
  • Work with human iPSC derived tanycytes.
  • Establishing lung organoid model for high-content imaging.
  • Imaging using advanced microscope such as multiphoton, spinning disk, high content screening microscopes and potential also light sheet microscopes.

You will report to the professor Morten S. Nielsen.Your competencesYou have academic qualifications at PhD level and have experience with animal experiment and isolation of primary tanycytes. The preferred candidates have also a strong record in imaging using confocal and more advanced microscopes.As a person, you have good interpersonal skills, are inclusive and team-oriented and able to contribute to a good work environment.
