Department of Dermatology and Allergy of the University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH)/Quincke Research Center in KielThe research group of Prof. Dr. Stephan Weidinger at the Department of Dermatology and Allergy/Quincke Research Center is looking for a Postdoc in the field of molecular bioinformatics/biostatistics. Within several large-scale projects funded by the EU, DFG and through industry collaborations we aim to define cellular and molecular mechanisms of chronic inflammatory skin diseases and search for molecular classifiers and for biomarkers associated with disease manifestation, progression, and therapy response. Our research group is embedded in a medical research environment and employs state-of-the-art molecular profiling methods on deeply phenotyped prospective cohorts, in particular and single cell sequencing technologies.Start in our teamWe are looking for professional and competent support to start as soon as possible, limited for 3 years. The working place will be within the Quincke Research Centre situated on the UKSH Campus Kiel.What we offer:

  • Our working group cooperates closely with the Institute of Medical Informatics and Statistics (IMIS), the Institute of Clinical Molecular Biology (IKMB), and the CCGA (“Comprehensive Centre for Genome Analysis”)

Your role:

  • The successful candidate will manage and analyse existing and upcoming large-scale next-generation sequencing (NGS) datasets on skin diseases
  • A main focus of the candidate will be projects related to the clinical and molecular characterization of (previously identified) patient subgroups as well as biomarkers and treatment targe
  • Supervision of PhD students in addition to the own scientific activities

Your profile:

  • Solid background in bioinformatics, mathematics, computer science, computational biology or similar fields.
  • Experience with machine learning methods will be a plus.
  • A good understanding of basic immunology will be a plus.
  • Good English writing and communication skills and a strong interest in multidisciplinary research. German language skills are appreciated but no pre-requisite
  • Willingness to do interdisciplinary research in a collaborative environment.
