Postdoc Signal processing for wearable sensors and speech technology in COPD

Smart wearables are increasingly used in healthcare for monitoring physiological processes. The focus of this postdoctoral position will be the development of a skin sensor to monitor respiratory rate in people living with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) based on a prototype wearable sensor developed by Maastricht University. Specifically, this wearable will need to be adapted for use in the home environment.
The 2-year postdoctoral research position is embedded within the NWO-funded project ‘Developing an Digital COPD Companion for Improving Lifestyle (DACIL)’. DACIL aims to develop digital innovations for monitoring people living with COPD. The wearable skin sensor will be one of these novel digital innovations. Besides wearable technology, our research group focuses on advancing speech technology for airway diseases. The postdoc preferably has interest or relevant experience in speech technology. The department of Respiratory Medicine is part of the NUTRIM Institute at the Maastricht University Medical Center+. The MUMC+ is a partnership of the Maastricht University Hospital and the Faculty of Health, Medicine & Life Sciences of Maastricht University. At our department, we focus on translational research and support a culture in which clinicians and researchers work together to improve the well-being of patients with respiratory diseases. The department of Respiratory Medicine is (inter)national distinctive in the research into mechanisms and interventions on metabolic consequences of lung diseases with a specific focus on COPD and lung cancer.
