Postdoctoral Position in Metabolomics of Human Seminal Liquid
USP-CEU welcomes early stage postdoctoral researchers with an excellent track record, to apply to the European Commission Marie Sklodowska-Curie (MSCA-25) or any other R2 reseach calls, such as: Juan de la Cierva (Spanish Plan for Scientific and Technical Research and Innovation) or (Madrid Regional Goverment).Selected candidates will be provided with special assistance for proposal writing and development. Our University has been beneficiary of 8 MSCA PF since 2017, including one MSCA-PF with an evaluation of 100/100 in 2021.Hosting Research GroupCEMBIO was created in 2006 to conduct top-level research in metabolomics. Leading world-class research in the field, CEMBIO has published more than 150 papers over the past five years. Our team integrates over 30 international, diverse, and dynamic researchers from different backgrounds, and our labs are equipped with cutting-edge separation platforms coupled to mass spectrometry detection. These include five UPLC systems, two GCs and two CE instruments coupled to three triple quadrupole, two Q-TOF, two TOF, and one quadrupole mass spectrometers. We are also equipped with all the necessary means for different sample preparation approaches in a variety of biological matrices, including lyophilizer (CoolSafe Pro 110-4 Freeze Dryer), two speed-vacs (HyperVAC model VC2124 centrifuge vacuum concentrator and Savant SPD121P Speed Vac), sample homogenizer (Tissuelyser LI), a cryogenic pulverizer (Covaris croPREP) and several sorts of centrifuges, among others.CEMBIO has also developed an online tool for metabolite annotation in untargeted metabolomics (CEU Mass Mediator) and provides all the expertise and tools needed to perform advanced data treatment on complex omics datasets.Relevant publications& projects in the area of the project include:

Research Project Description:Fertilityhas been in decline in most developed regions over recent decades, with contributing factors including reduced sperm quality, increased incidence of reproductive disorders, and conditions such as endometriosis. The composition of biological fluids involved in the reproductive outcome (such as seminal plasma, follicular fluid, and cervical mucus) and how they change under pathological conditions can reveal key mechanisms underlying infertility and guide the development of biomarker-based diagnostics and therapies. This project aims to characterize signaling molecules and metabolic profiles in human and animal reproductive fluids and in vitro samples across a range of physiological and disease states. Despite their clinical relevance, many components of these samples remain poorly understood. Conventional bioanalytical approaches offer limited insight, but metabolomics provides a holistic view of the biochemical landscape, encompassing energy metabolism, inflammation, and signaling pathways relevant to fertility. The project tackles a current health threat affecting our society, pioneering the application of metabolomics to this topic in the world. The generated knowledge will be of interest for basic and clinical reproductive medicine, and of epidemiological and toxicological relevance. This research project has secured 5-year funding from the Region of Madrid through an Atracción de Talento grant and a 3-year Proyecto de Generación de Conocimiento from the Spanish Government. At CEMBIO we are eager to host new researchers in our group and we believe that groundbreaking discoveries can only happen by contributing to their career development while letting them share their own experiences and expertise with us. As per the nature of the MSCA actions, secondments and nonacademic collaborations are strongly encouraged during the funding period.Candidate requirements: Postdoctoral candidates of any nationality (max. 8 years after defense) with:
An expression of interest shall be sent to and (Attn.: Prof. Coral Barbas and Dr. Víctor González-Ruiz). Your file should contain the following elements: * A short CV (Max. 2 pages)
Those files received before 15th of June y will be considered for MSCA-PF 2025. Applications received after this date, will be considered for other calls after discussion with the candidate.Share this page
