Postdoctoral Position: Indoor environmental quality to promote health and well-being in vulnerable people
USP-CEU welcomes early stage postdoctoral researchers with an excellent track record, to apply to the European Commission Marie Sklodowska-Curie (MSCA-25) or any other R2 reseach calls, such as: Juan de la Cierva (Spanish Plan for Scientific and Technical Research and Innovation) or (Madrid Regional Goverment).Selected candidates will be provided with special assistance for proposal writing and development. Our University has been beneficiary of 8 MSCA PF since 2017, including one MSCA-PF with an evaluation of 100/100 in 2021.Hosting Research GroupThe AIRE research group proposes lines of research related to the Energy Optimisation of Building Facilities, as well as the Quality of the Indoor Environment and how this affects the health of its occupants. In order to maintain a Sustainable Architecture, the lines of work also consider the Efficient Management of Material Resources and Energy Consumption through the development of new technologies.Relevant activities of the research group:Research into efficient ventilation. Study of the parameters that include indoor air quality, the design of air conditioning systems, the conditions in which this system works and the presence of pollutant sources and their magnitude. Analysis of pollutants in concentrations above those that can damage health or cause discomfort to occupants.Study and analysis of how to design buildings considering the environment, the efficiency of materials, indoor environment and the impact on nature and society. Analysis of the quality of the indoor environment (hygrothermal, acoustic and visual comfort). Research on monitoring and control of energy consumption. Study of energy consumption habits.Hosting Supervisor isProf. Ph.D. Roberto Alonso González Lezcano,Competitive projects in progress

.Research Project DescriptionIndoor environmental quality (IEQ) significantly affects the health and well-being of building occupants. Thermal comfort, indoor air quality, lighting comfort and acoustic comfort are essential elements that improve occupant health, productivity and property value. The location, orientation, climate, typology and actions of building occupants influence indoor environmental quality. Indoor activities and building components contribute to indoor air pollution. Poor indoor environmental quality can cause respiratory problems, allergies and asthma. It can also affect cardiovascular health, leading to diseases such as strokes and heart attacks. Noise pollution is linked to hypertension and cardiovascular problems. In addition, poor indoor environmental quality can cause headaches, fatigue, irritability and cognitive impairment, affecting well-being and productivity. Vulnerable populations such as children, pregnant women, people with disabilities and older adults are particularly at risk. Addressing poor indoor environmental quality is crucial to the health and well-being of occupants.Despite their growing importance. Understanding these variations is essential for designing inclusive and healthy buildings. More empirical studies are needed to fill this knowledge gap and develop guidelines for the design and operation of buildings that improve the environmental quality of all age groups. We propose a multidisciplinary approach that integrates architecture, engineering, physics, mathematics, health professionals and psychology. It aims to identify the key factors affecting the environmental quality of buildings and their impact on vulnerable people. The study also examines how sensory perception, cognitive function, building design and operation interact with the environmental quality of buildings in various vulnerable groups.Candidate requirements: Postdoctoral candidates of any nationality (max. 8 years after defense)with:
