Offer Description
The CNRS LAPP (Laboratoire d’Annecy de Physique des Particules) institute is opening a post-doctoral researcher position for a two-year postdoctoral fellowship on ATLAS, a mid-aged experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. The position aims at developing machine-learning-based tools for electroweak measurements in the Standard Model sector and potentially their extensions to the future coverage upgraded Phase-II ATLAS detector.
The successful candidate will join a team of physicists looking into subtle effects in diboson channels and is expected to co-supervise a PhD student studying polarisation effects in diboson events, using machine learning techniques.
The group has expertise in data acquisition and online software. In particular, we are involved in the operations and Phase-II upgrade of the electronics of the ATLAS Liquid Argon (LAr) calorimeters. In the coming years, the LAPP group will be in charge of developing the LAr Phase-II online software infrastructure, and to produce, test and commission the new LATOURNETT and LAr Calibration boards. Depending on the profile and interest, the successful candidate could contribute to more instrumental aspects related to the above-mentioned topics.
LAPP is a laboratory of the Institute of Nuclear Physics and Particle Physics, an institute of the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), which coordinates programs in these fields. LAPP is a joint research unit (UMR 5814) of the CNRS and the University of Savoie Mont-Blanc (USMB). More than 150 researchers, teacher-researchers, engineers, technicians, administrators, students and foreign visitors work there. The research carried out at LAPP aims to study the physics of elementary particles and their fundamental interactions, as well as to explore their links with the great structures of the Universe. The work of the LAPP teams aims, among other things, to understand the origin of the mass of particles, to unravel the mystery of dark matter or to determine what happened to the anti-matter present in our universe at the time of the Big Bang.
LAPP is a dynamic lab located 50-km far from CERN that hosts the detector of the ATLAS collaboration. The LAPP ATLAS team (11 physicists, 3 post-docs, 5 PhD students, 16 engineers) mostly works on Higgs physics and complementary measurements in the SM EW sector.
Applicants must:
· Apply on the CNRS Job Portal, submit a cover letter explaining their interest in the position and a detailed curriculum vitae (containing a description of their research experience with a list of publications highlighting their personal contributions).
· Have referrals to send at least 2 letters of recommendation directly to
[email protected] (further information can be obtained from this same email address).
