The dean of the Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics, with the consent of the Rector of the University of Warsaw, announces a competition for a postdoctoral position (assistant professor).

Description of the project:
The combination of methods from logic and graph theory has been extremely successful in the design of algorithms, in complexity theory, and other areas of theoretical computer science. An example result in this area states that every graph property definable in first-order logic can be decided in linear time (that is, very efficiently) on planar graphs. The goal of the project is to develop a structural theory of graph classes that enjoy similar algorithmic, combinatorial and logical properties. See for more details.

Conditions for entering the competition
the competition may be entered by candidates who meet the conditions set out in art. 113 of the Law on Higher Education and Science of July 20, 2018 (Journal of Laws of 2024, item 1571, as amended);
at the moment of employment, the candidate must hold a PhD degree in either mathematics or informatics;
significant scientific achievements;
plan for future research activities;
international experience.
In addition, we expect
that the candidate will have excellent preparation in both disciplines (mathematics and computer science) and also have a strong background in at least one of the following fields: structural graph theory, algorithms and complexity, finite model theory, or model theory.
Criteria for the assessment of candidates in a competition
The criteria indicated below will be taken into account, considering the position and stage of professional development of the candidate:
publications – the substantive value of the publication and the reputation of the journal in which it was published. The quality of publications should be more important than their number;
managing of research projects or participating in research projects;
talks given at scientific conferences, with particular emphasis on invited talks;
participation in scientific committees of conferences;
research internships in other research centres;
scientific cooperation with scientists from other research centres;
organizing and managing research groups;
popularisation of the results and other forms of dissemination.Position not related to activities covered by the protection of minors.
