Applications are invited for an BHF funded post-doctoral research associate position to investigate novel redox-dependent processes that are key role in cardiovascular health and disease. You will join the King’s BHF Centre of Excellence that has over 290 researchers including 75 principal investigators. Here you will work in the lab of Dr Joe Burgoyne that has a team of basic scientists that study novel redox and epigenetic processes that underlie cardiovascular health and disease.

This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract till 31st August 2028.

This is a full-time post – 100% full time equivalent.

Key responsibilities

Perform cell/tissue culture experiments.

Perform biochemical/molecular studies.

Analyse protein structural information.

Perform immunofluorescence/immunochemistry experiments.

Perform high-resolution imaging on confocal microscopes.

Present data at regular group meetings.

Support the training of undergraduate and postgraduate project students.

Interact scientifically with other members of the group and departmental colleagues.

Facilitate collaboration and networking which engages and supports the activities of the project

Contribute to the preparation of manuscripts for journal publication.

Plan own day-to-day research activity within the framework of the agreed research schedule

Support the technical aspects of the smooth running of the lab Including stock maintenance, reagent preparation.

Undertake any other reasonable duties that may be relevant to the role outline.

Skills, knowledge, and experience

Essential criteria

PhD in cardiovascular Biochemistry/Physiology

Strong background in biochemistry and molecular biology

Tissue/cell culture experience

Experience in studying redox biology

Experience in structural biology

Broad cell biology experience, e.g. immunoblotting, primary cell culture, confocal microscopy, immunofluorescence

Motivated and hard-working.

Ability to integrate with colleagues, work as part of a team and undertake share of group tasks.

Able to carry out know/learnt techniques unsupervised, and flexible/able to change in current professional context.

Able to plan and prioritise workload and keep clear and well-organised laboratory notes and records.

Desirable criteria

Background in cardiovascular biology

* Please note that this is a PhD level role but candidates who have submitted their thesis and are awaiting award of their PhDs will be considered. In these circumstances the appointment will be made at Grade 5, spine point 30 with the title of Research Assistant. Upon confirmation of the award of the PhD, the job title will become Research Associate and the salary will increase to Grade 6.
