Postdoctoral research fellowship on twisted oxide membranes – DTU Energy
Danmarks Tekniske Universitet
Job Description:Do you want to contribute to creating a new generation of cutting-edge projects that involve both structural and electronic characterization of quantum materials? At DTU, our research focuses on developing innovative freestanding membranes made from complex oxides. These membranes provide a unique approach to designing the next generation of complex oxide devices by utilizing stacking and twisting techniques. This postdoc fellowship will build on this knowledge to explore and realize new properties in twisted membranes within complex oxide thin films. The position offered is part of the ERC Advanced project NEXUS, which is dedicated to expanding the potential of oxide membrane technology. NEXUS employs a radically different approach compared to previous efforts, aiming for fundamental breakthroughs in the study of transport across interfaces by utilizing twisted membranes. This innovative method offers an exciting way to tune the properties of the materials. The goal of the Postdoctoral Researcher is to develop methods for fabricating, releasing, and twisting complex oxide membranes, with the overall aim of investigating these twisted materials using advanced High-Resolution Transmission Electron Microscopy (HRTEM) techniques. Due to the strong bonding between layers, moiré patterns in oxide bilayers can form over a broader range of twist angles compared to van der Waals (vdW) materials. In strong collaboration with the Electron Microscopy Center at the University of Antwerp (EMAT) and the Electron Microscopy Center at DTU, the postdoctoral researcher will study the reconstructed structures of various complex oxides at different twist angles to better understand their properties. The overall aim of this project is to
