Offer Description
Following the achievement of laser confinement fusion reactions at LLNL (Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory), the development of high repetition rate lasers will require the creation of cooled laser chains and the design of architectures to achieve the highest efficiency. In this context, the laboratory is developing fiber oscillators and various architectures. The recruited individual will join the laser research and development team and will be responsible for developing, implementing, and characterizing a laser using a 200-mm-diameter Pseudo-Active Mirror Disk Amplifier.
– Setting up and characterizing an Agilite laser
– Implementation and characterization of a fiber oscillator with temporally profiled pulses.
– Analysis and implementation of a 200 mm PAMDAM amplifier.
• Optical simulation of laser architectures.
• Assistance in supervising doctoral students and engineering apprentices.
• Strong interaction with the specialized teams at LULI (electronics, control systems, mechanics, fluid dynamics).
The mission will be carried out on LULI (Laboratoire pour l’Utilisation des Lasers Intenses), a joint research unit (CNRS, École Polytechnique, CEA, Sorbonne Université, UMR 7605), located on the campus of Ecole Polytechnique (Palaiseau), on the Orme des Merisiers site (Saclay) and on the Jussieu campus of Sorbonne University in Paris. The laboratory has 100 staff (65 engineers and technicians and 35 researchers). LULI is an academic research center and a training center in hot plasma physics and laser optics. The LULI laboratory provides the scientific community with laser chains and competitive experimental facilities suitable for research on the physics of hot and dense plasmas created by lasers.
The post-doctoral position is integrated In the frame of the EU project for advancing “Technology for High-Repetition Rate Intense Laser Laboratories” (THRILL : https://www.thrill-project.eu ) obtain by LULI and 8 European partners in the framework of HORIZON-INFRA-2022-TECH-01-01 – R&D for the next generation of scientific instrumentation, tools and methods The THRILL project provides new schemes and devices for pushing forward the limits of research infrastructures of European relevance and ESFRI landmarks. Eight partners joined forces not only to work on advancing technology in the field of high-energy high-repetition-rate lasers, but also to train a highly skilled workforce for tomorrow’s challenges in research infrastructures and industry.
