Offer DescriptionWorking within the Climate Services Division the successful candidate will work to develop an R software based intense rainfall model which will account for climate change projections predicting rainfall amounts at any specific location which users may require. Currently Met Éireann has an intense rainfall model which is based on historical data, however this does not include the effects of a changing climate. The selected candidate will explore various avenues for developing a model through an examination that incorporates the existing Met Éireann methodology, while also considering approaches utilised by other meteorological services. Testing will enable the identification of the optimal model, which will then be further refined, leading to the creation of a finalised documented model accompanied by comprehensive intense rainfall datasets and maps.For further details on the post please visitRequirementsResearch Field Physics » Metrology Education Level PhD or equivalentSkills/QualificationsA Postdoctoral Researcher will be required to work in Met Éireann Headquarters located at Glasnevin Hill, Dublin 9. • ESSENTIAL for the job

1. A Ph.D*. or equivalent experience in mathematics, physics, atmospheric sciences or a related environmental computational discipline is required.2. Strong quantitative skills including data analysis and model development.3. Good programming skills.4. Effective oral and written communication skills.

• DESIRABLE (but not essential) for the job

1. A proven track record in peer-reviewed publications.2. Evidence of creativity and capability of independent research.3. Familiarity with developing data sets.

• Applicants who are close to completion of a Ph.D. will also be considered
