Postdoctoral researcher in Bioprocess development
Offer DescriptionCROPSAFE: A HORIZON-JU-CBE project
Biomass-derived Crop Protection Strategies for the Transition to Environmentally-Friendly Agriculture
The project involves the development and optimization of bioactive materials derived from non-edible/waste (aquatic, forest and agri-food) biomass. They will be formulated for optimized delivery and performance. Their mode of action will be analysed with state-of-the-art technologies, including several omics. Selected bioactives will be tested up to field studies. Safety will be carefully monitored. CS Bioac-tives are aimed to replace toxic synthetic chemicals derived from non-renewable petrochemical feed-stocks. They will target pest and disease agents that threaten key Food Security crops (potato, tomato and banana). The Laboratory is looking for a postdoc to work on Bioprocess development aimed at the production of enzymatically modified chitosan materials to be tested for bioactivities. The project involves:
– recombinant expression of enzymes,
– bioprocesses development and optimization at pilot plant scale,
– biocatalytic transformations and bioproducts characterization.Position for two years starting by July 2025, extendable upon additional funding. The research at the Laboratory of Biochemistry focuses on Carbohydrate Active Enzymes (CAZymes) involved in the biosynthesis, modification and degradation of glycans and glycoconjugates, from fundamen-tal aspects of their mechanism, specificity and regulation to their applications in biocatalysis, synthetic biology and as therapeutic targets in infectious diseases ( ).Applicant’s profile
– PhD in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, or alike.
– Experience in bioprocess development, microbial fermentations, use of bioreactors, molecular cloning, protein expression, enzymology, biocatalysis, physicochemical techniques for products characterization (RMN, spectrophotometry, mass spectrometry, HPLC,..)
– Communication and team building skills for collaborative work in a research team.
– Managing abilities to supervise MS and undergrad students.
– Fluent in English.Main Tasks and responsibilities
– The successful candidate is expected to work collaboratively within the group and with other partners in the European project.
