A postdoc position is available at the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Materials and Production in the period from 15 May 2025 until 31 August 2026 or soon hereafter. The position is funded by a research program on Aseptic Production funded by Novo Nordisk A/S. This position’s physical location is partly at the Aalborg East Campus of Aalborg University and partly at relevant Novo Nordisk facilities (primarily in Gentofte).JobbeskrivelseThis PostDoc position is part of a larger partnership with Novo Nordisk on the design of future aseptic filling systems. This partnership includes a number of projects, and this PostDoc has a special focus on using advanced CFD simulations to validate novel production concepts’ applicability to Aseptic Production(AP).Using simulation tools early in the design process enables fast evaluation of new ideas based on knowledge and insight. The simulation tools can be broadly applied, covering disciplines governed by physics(solid mechanics and fluid dynamics) to discrete event simulation of the production flow. Designing a new filling concept for AP will involve simulation of both physical systems(CFD simulations) as well as discrete event simulation, where the overall objective is to:

• Enable simulation-driven design, verification, and documentation.
• Fast evaluation of new ideas based on knowledge and insight.
• Verifying assumptions about laminar airflow(eliminating turbulent flow) and simulating particle contamination.
• Coupled simulations– CFD simulations where the boundary conditions are based on robot kinematic simulation.
• Future activity could include designing an inline-mixing device, considering the impact of shear stress and shear work on the medicament, which could supply insight regarding the selection of a filling system and filling pump for a specific medicament.

The postdoc will be part of an interdisciplinary project team of several other junior and senior researchers from the Department of Materials and Production. The team also includes participants from Novo Nordisk A/S and relevant system and technology providers. Formally, the candidate will be tied to the Robot and Automation research group.The project offers a well-scoped research direction yet simultaneously accommodates great autonomy in research activities within the broader scope of the project and research topic. Scientific dissemination is expected to focus on subject-relevant journals and conferences, while practitioner-oriented dissemination is carried out as part of the project’s dissemination activities with the industrial partner company.The PostDoc is expected to take an active role in developing personal skills in communicating, teaching, working in a cross-disciplinary collaboration/team, and contributing to the further development of the partnership on Aseptic Production. This includes supervising student projects and other related activities relevant to the partnership.Qualification requirementsAppointment as Postdoc presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment. Appointment as a Postdoc cannot exceed a period of four years in total at Aalborg University.The application must contain the following:
