Offer DescriptionA postdoctoral researcher position is available in the Laboratory of Bioengineering and Morphogenesis at KU Leuven. Our research focuses on understanding the relationship between cell fate, growth and morphogenesis in bioengineered organoid model systems. We are looking for highly motivated, interdisciplinary post-doctoral researchers with a background in neurodevelopment to study the role of active mechanical forces in brain development. The project aims at exploring new and unconventional ways of manipulating and measuring forces during organoid development, to understand mechanisms of symmetry-breaking, growth and patterning in brain development. These approaches will be combined with our established artificial extracellular matrices, optogenetic tools, microfluidic devices, and active force manipulation techniques. We are also especially curious about unconventional modes of regulation of morphogenesis, while using state-of-the art bioengineering technologies and spatial transcriptomics. The research fits within the scope of a large, multidisciplinary research projects funded by the Allen Institute and FWO to understand how active mechanical forces guide stem cell fate decisions and tissue-scale morphogenesis in brain development. It brings together research groups from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Leuven Stem Cell Institute (SCIL), Leuven Center for Brain & Disease Research (VIB), Leuven Institute for single Cell Omics (LISCO) and Leuven Brain Institute (LBI).
