As part of the EU-funded *ReConnect China* consortium, Ghent University collaborates with top-tier institutions to deepen strategic relations between Europe and China, providing policymakers with evidence-based analyses and recommendations.YOUR TASKSWe are seeking a researcher to contribute to policy-oriented research on the geopolitical dynamics between China and Europe. The role involves:1. Writing three policy briefs on:

• Chinese diplomacy in Europe and its neighboring regions
• The implications of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) for Europe
• Chinese security and defense challenges for Europe

2. Supporting the organization of a roundtable event with policymakers and experts to discuss the research findings.Responsibilities:

• Conduct independent research and draft policy-oriented reports within a strict timeframe of 2.5 months.
• Analyze geopolitical developments and translate complex data into actionable policy recommendations.
• Collaborate with consortium partners to ensure consistency and quality in project deliverables.
• Assist in the logistical and content preparation of an international roundtable event.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

• You hold a thesis-based doctorate in International Relations, Geopolitics, Sinology, or a related field.
• Extensive knowledge of geopolitical and economic relations in the Indo-Pacific region, with a focus on China and the EU.
• Strong analytical and writing skills, with a proven track record of policy briefs and academic publications.
• A proactive attitude and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
• Excellent communication skills in English. Knowledge of Dutch and/or Mandarin is an asset.

• We offer you a contract of definite duration for the period of 3 months.
• Your contract will start on 1/02/2025 at the earliest.
