We’re looking for a proactive and knowledgeable Pre-Award Development Officer to join our dynamic Grants and Contracts Team at Northumbria University.In this pivotal role, you’ll be the go-to expert for researchers across a defined portfolio, guiding them through the development and submission of high-quality research funding proposals. You’ll provide expert advice on funder requirements, ensure compliance with internal and external policies, and collaborate with academic and professional services colleagues to deliver a seamless pre-award service.You’ll also lead on costing proposals, managing complex bid submissions, and supporting the onboarding of grant transfers. We work closely with academic staff, researchers, and external partners to provide expert guidance on funding opportunities, application processes, and compliance requirements. Our team ensures that all proposals meet internal and external standards, helping to maximise our chances of securing funding.We are a collaborative, detail-oriented, and proactive team that thrives in a dynamic and fast-paced research environment. Our work spans a wide range of disciplines and funders, from UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) to international agencies and industry partners. Our team plays a critical role in enabling impactful research, fostering innovation and translating ideas into real-world solutions.ABOUT YOUTo be successful in the role you will have:

• Excellent knowledge of research grant costings and preparing externally funded proposals
• Experience of coordinating across multiple teams
• Ability to analyse, interpret and respond to detailed written documentation
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills, both oral and written
• Knowledge of national (UK) funder requirements, priorities and funding mechanisms/schemes
