As KU Leuven Professor and VIB Group Leader, you will be expected to (further) develop a research program within your own independent research group, and build (or consolidate) a strong network with other researchers at KU Leuven, VIB and beyond. You will strive for excellence in your research and thus contribute to the scientific development of the new VIB.AI center.Teaching
The candidate will be appointed at the Faculty of Medicine and is expected to take up teaching assignments (in English or in Dutch) in this or other KU Leuven faculties. You will provide high-quality education, with a clear commitment to the quality of the program(s). You will also contribute to the university’s pedagogic project by supervising MSc theses and as promoter of PhD students.Service

Eligibility criteria

  • PhD or equivalent experience in machine learning or a related quantitative field (Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Computational Biology/Chemistry).
  • Candidates will be considered at junior or more senior levels based on relevant experience in foundational and/or applied machine learning research in an academic and/or industrial setting (post-doctorate).
  • Extensive experience in machine learning and programming.
  • Published impactful research that demonstrates creativity and scientific quality.
  • Ability to secure competitive funding.
  • Interdisciplinary thinking and commitment to collaborations within VIB, the department and the university.
  • Motivated to mentor postdoctoral researchers, PhD candidates, masterstudents and other scientists.
  • Proficiency in English is required.
  • The successful candidate must also be selected as VIB group leader in the VIB.AI Center.
