The Role

The Research Institute for Peace and Security undertakes innovative, world-class research that is designed to positively impact on society.

Strategic Communications, along with the internet and social media, have been identified as key drivers in the prevention of violent extremism. Terrorist and violent extremist groups radicalize and recruit individuals through online propaganda, social media platforms, networking sites and traditional media. Much work has been done in recent years to identify good practice in using strategic communications to prevent the appeal of violent extremism and terrorism.

This is an area of research that the Institute has pockets of excellence, however we are looking to employ a senior academic to work in this area and bring together research already done on Trust, Communications and Leadership with the area of Protective Security. This will involve working with key stakeholders, including Government, policy makers, practitioners and academics.

This new post will help develop and deliver significant and impactful research and continually update the knowledge and understanding in the discipline and develop new research techniques and approaches to enable contribution within established research programmes.

Qualifications Required

We are seeking a research leader with a PhD, demonstrable experience in security and Strategic Communications research and/or policy and/or practice, as well as significant experience leading research in this area at national and international levels.
