Job summary
The post of Project & Communications Manager is available in The Abdul Latif Jameel Institute for Disease and Emergency Analytics (Jameel Institute) within the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology in the School of Public Health, Imperial College, London.
The Jameel Institute was officially launched in October 2019 to combat global disease threats. The Jameel Institute is part of Imperial’s world-class School of Public Health in the College’s renowned Faculty of Medicine. Bringing together global health researchers in the School and drawing on Imperial’s expertise in data analytics, epidemiology and economics, the Jameel Institute improves our understanding of diseases and health emergencies in the most vulnerable populations across the globe. The Institute partners with governments, research institutions, international organizations and communities to develop practical and effective long-term solutions, shape health policy and deliver better quality of life for all. The Jameel Institute was co-founded by Imperial College London and Community Jameel, a social enterprise organisation that operates a wide range of initiatives which promote and contribute towards positive societal change and economic sustainability. Duties and responsibilities
The post holder will support the mission of the Jameel Institute globally and nationally with communications, managerial and administrative support to the Jameel Institute’s researchers and affiliates. The post holder will be responsible for enhancing and extending collaborations and partnerships with major global actors such as the World Health Organization, GAVI the Vaccine Alliance, and the Global Fund, and partnerships with governments and NGOs in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The post holder will collaborate closely with Community Jameel and will enhance the Jameel Institute’s collaboration with other philanthropic donors, national and international funding organizations. The postholder will work with the College’s Advancement team and academics to coordinate and support development and project management of bids for philanthropic donations towards the School of Public Health within the Faculty of Medicine. The postholder will organize meetings, workshops, manage external and international collaborators, and undertake managerial and administrative tasks related to these activities.
The postholder will be responsible for managing the Institute’s Communications Strategy, directing its programme of public engagement, communications and outreach activities. The postholder will ensure that the communication and engagement strategy is coordinated with those of the other Institutes and Centres at the School of Public Health, and may support communication and engagement activities of other Institutes and Centres at the School. The postholder will keep the Institute’s website up to date and manage its social media presence. The postholder will also be expected to have an operational understanding of the Institute’s research goals, and the corresponding work streams. The postholder will work closely with the Institute Director, Deputy Director, other communication managers at the School and Imperial College mode widely, and the Departmental Manager to be responsible for managing and coordinating activities, ensuring that they are carried out smoothly with milestones achieved and reported on.
Essential requirements
The role requires the post holder to handle a varied workload, having excellent attention to detail, an understanding of international research collaborations, and the needs of academics engaged in global health programmes.
The successful applicant will have a background in global health, a relevant master level qualification and significant experience working in a communications role.
