Job description

As part of establishing a new UK branch for a large, well-established international wind turbine manufacturer, the Project Manager will be responsible for planning, executing, and delivering large-scale offshore wind turbine projects on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
A key aspect of this role is engaging with the global parent company to adapt existing project management processes and tools for the local UK/European context. The successful candidate will demonstrate an open, collaborative mindset with a strong emphasis on building trusting relationships across cultures. They will have the autonomy and opportunity to innovate, shape ways of working, and drive continuous improvement in project delivery.
The successful candidate will act as the main focal point for delivery of a Turbine Supply Agreement, acting to manage both Technical and Commercial aspects to deliver the contract and works safely. This role represents significant accountability and ownership. Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Execution

  • Accountable for developing comprehensive project plans (scope, schedule, budget, resources) incorporating global best practices and local regulations.
  • Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams (engineering, procurement, HSE, quality) and external stakeholders (contractors, suppliers, local authorities) to ensure seamless execution.
  • Continuously monitor and report on project progress, making data-driven adjustments to stay on track.

Safety Management

  • The Project Manager shall be responsible for driving a safety focused culture in delivery of the project
  • It is expected that the project manager shall treat safe delivery of the project as an overriding goal and be unflinching in placing suitable focus on this area.
  • Compliance with applicable local and international guidelines, legislation, and best practice shall be driven by the Project Manager with support from the HSE team

Stakeholder & Relationship Management

  • Serve as the primary liaison between the UK branch and the parent company engineering team for an individual project, building strong collaborative relationships to leverage corporate expertise.
  • Cultivate trust-based relationships with clients, suppliers, and internal teams, managing expectations and resolving issues proactively.
  • Navigate cross-cultural differences with sensitivity, ensuring open communication and mutual understanding.

System Adaptation & Implementation

  • Evaluate existing project management frameworks from the parent company, identifying which elements can be rolled out directly, which need adaptation, and where new processes are necessary.
  • Champion the adoption of project management tools and systems, ensuring local teams are trained and supported.

Risk & Compliance Management

  • Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks, ensuring compliance with UK/EU regulations (including environmental, health, and safety standards).
  • Maintain alignment with corporate governance requirements while adapting to local market conditions.
  • Collaborate closely with HSE and Quality teams to integrate risk management into project plans.

Budget & Cost Control

  • Accountable for development and management of project budgets, monitoring expenditures to avoid overruns.
  • Coordinate with finance and procurement teams to optimize cost efficiency without compromising quality or safety.
  • Provide regular financial forecasts and reports to senior management.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead and mentor project teams, promoting an inclusive environment that values open communication, innovation, and continuous learning.
  • Encourage collaboration and knowledge-sharing across departments and international offices to maximize synergies.
  • Recognize and reward high performance, fostering professional growth and empowerment.

Continuous Improvement & Innovation

  • Identify lessons learned from ongoing and completed projects, implementing continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Drive innovative approaches to project delivery, leveraging emerging technologies and industry best practices to achieve operational excellence.
  • Advocate a forward-thinking mindset to shape new ways of working that align with local and global objectives.

Reporting & Communication

  • Prepare and present regular project updates to local and global senior leadership, highlighting achievements, risks, and mitigation strategies.
  • Maintain transparent, timely communication channels with all stakeholders to facilitate decision-making and resolve conflicts.

Qualifications and Experience
Education

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Business, or related field. A Master’s degree or MBA is a plus.

Certifications

  • PMI Project Management Professional (PMP), APM PMQ, PRINCE2, or similar certifications preferred.

Experience

  • 8+ years of experience in managing large-scale infrastructure or energy projects; experience in offshore wind or renewable energy is highly desirable. Oil & Gas experience accepted
  • 3+ years minimum of experience in Offshore Wind
  • Frontline HSE experience (e.g. as a representative offshore, construction project management experience) highly desirable. Experience with HSE reviews, incident investigations, and HAZIDs/HIRA’s is expected.
  • Working knowledge of CDM legislation is required.
  • Demonstrated success in adapting global systems and processes to meet regional requirements.
  • Proven track record of working in cross-cultural or international environments.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with project management software and systems
  • Solid understanding of contractual obligations, risk management, and financial controls in large-scale projects.

Soft Skills

  • Strong relationship-building skills with a focus on trust, collaboration, and open dialogue.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Demonstrated adaptability and willingness to learn from different regions, cultures, and business practices.

Working Arrangements

  • Primarily office-based in the UK (Edinburgh or London) with frequent travel to manufacturing sites, China, and offshore locations for audits and inspections.
