Biodiversity Ranger Apprentice required at Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council (Level 4
Apprenticeship for 2.5 years)
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic person with a keen interest in biodiversity to
support our Rangers and Community Green Space Officer with practical habitat management works
and volunteer group support across the borough as the foundation of a career in the environment
and conservation sector.
You will be a good team player with a desire to learn more about habitat management and
biodiversity conservation managing woodland, scrub, heathland and species rich grassland.
This is very much a hands-on practical position but there is also a small amount of IT skills
required to carry out the role.
You will be a good communicator as working with and alongside volunteer and friends groups is
an essential requirement of the role.
Main responsibilities
- Grass cutting (and collection, in species – rich areas).
- Thicket thinning and scrub clearance.
- Path and fence repairs.
- Woodland coppice work and woodland ride clearance.
- Hedge cutting and hedge laying.
- Pond and stream clearance.
- Tree planting.
- Wild flower and grass seeding.
- Leading volunteer work parties.
- Tool maintenance and vehicle administration.
- Support with volunteer group set-up.
- Event planning support.
Skills and Competencies required
- Highly motivated individual
- Well-organised and able to take direction
- Strong team work skills
- competent IT skills with experience of MS office
- Keen attention to detail
- Proactive and flexible approach to work
- Full UK driving license
- Applicants must be 18 or over
