About the Role
The Department of Modern Languages and Cultures, within the School of Languages, Linguistics and Film, is looking to appoint a suitably qualified Reader or Professor specialising in Latin American Studies. Applicants with specialisms in literature, film, visual arts, digital humanities or culture and the ability to contribute towards our Liberal Arts and/or Global Development programmes would be especially welcome.
Research-related duties include: research and publication, with evidence of high-quality research and publications in renowned journals, together with research leadership in the field so as to contribute to the overall medium and long-term research strategy of the School. We would expect the successful candidate to contribute significantly to at least two of the School’s five research themes of Global Epistemologies, Visual & Material Culture, Translation & Adaptation Studies, Language, Nation, Identity, and Medical Humanities. Education-related duties include convening and teaching undergraduate modules, contributing to MA provision as appropriate, (co)-supervising PhD students, developing new modules, and adapting existing ones, in line with their specific research strengths. The successful candidate will be expected to undertake administrative and leadership roles within the School and/or Department.

About You
You will hold a PhD in Latin American Studies or a related subject, or a relevant professional qualification or equivalent professional experience, together with the ability to deliver teaching and assessment at undergraduate and postgraduate level. The ability to work constructively and flexibly with colleagues, and good organisational and communicative skills, are also essential.

The post is full-time and permanent, expecting to start 1 September 2023. Starting salary is Grade 7, ranging £61,896 to £69,114 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance at Reader level, or Grade 8 at Professor level.
