Job DetailsThe Rheumatology Dept at Tallaght University HospitalThe Academic Rheumatology Department at Tallaght University Hospital provides an adult rheumatology service to Tallaght University Hospital, Naas General Hospital and has a newly built dedicated 10 bed inpatient rheumatology rehabilitation unit at Peamount Hospital. This service comprises 4.75 Consultants (including one Clinical Professor) and 6 registrars (including 2 SpRs) working with multidisciplinary teams of allied health professionals located at all 3 hospital sites.
The department provides an excellent environment to deliver rheumatology care and ample opportunity for the applicant to develop their rheumatology skills in all areas of rheumatology. Registrars will attend a wide range of Clinics include general rheumatology clinics at both TUH and NGH and specialist clinics at TUH. The specialist clinics included dedicated Ultrasound diagnostics and injections, Early Arthritis Clinic, Treat to Target clinic, Psoriatic arthritis clinic, Rapid access GCA clinic, Transition clinic and a planned Pre-pregnancy and pregnancy clinic. In addition the Dept has a weekly lunchtime education meeting, twice monthly radiology MDT, a monthly Dublin Vasculitis and Allergy MDT (including all specialties such as respiratory/nephrology/dermatology/etc for complex vasculitis care).
The Dept has a well established interest in ultrasound in rheumatology since 2006 and has 12 ultrasound systems for training and for delivery of clinical care. The Dept is unique in Ireland in that it provides an in house training programme in musculoskeletal ultrasound with regular in house ultrasound training sessions and has hosted the ISR ultrasound course since 2006. Registrars are encouraged to train in musculoskeletal ultrasound and 4 of the consultants have EFSUMB accreditation in ultrasound.
The Dept has an excellent track record for clinical and academic research in Rheumatology if applicants wish to pursue research projects or an MD or PhD thesis. There have been multiple abstracts presented from our Dept at an International level as well as many impactful publications in high quality journals.
Registrars will also support allied health professional clinics providing Extended Scope of Practice Physiotherapy MSK GP Triage Clinics, Fracture Liaison clinics and Advanced Nurse Practitioner Rheumatology Clinics.
Peamount Hospital which is 15 minutes from TUH provides inpatient rehabilitation services for Rheumatology, Neurorehabilitation, Respiratory and Age Related patients. Our patients are referred from outpatient clinics in Tallaght and Naas and admitted for on average a 2 week stay (Monday –Friday admissions). They benefit from a holistic approach to care with physiotherapy, occupational therapy, social work, psychology and medical input. There is a consultant led MDT ward round once a week, and an infusion suite where IV zoledronic acid infusions are administered. There is a rheumatology SHO on site on a daily basis. We plan to expand our services to provide outpatient rehabilitation programmes in the near future.Tallaght University HospitalTallaght University Hospital is one of Ireland’s largest acute teaching hospitals, adult, psychiatric and age related healthcare on one site. The following is required for employment:

  • Satisfactory references
  • Satisfactory registration with the Irish Medical Council (IMC) and the provision of your IMC Registration Certificate effective from 9th July 2018.
  • Satisfactory evidence of English Language Competency
  • Satisfactory completion of Children’s First
  • Satisfactory completion of Self Declaration Form
  • Satisfactory completion of Garda Vetting Form
  • Satisfactory clearance from Occupational Health Department
  • Satisfactory evidence of Residency Status
  • Satisfactory evidence of current ACLS / APLS certificate. NCHDs who participate in Crash Call include those working in Adult and Paediatric Medicine, Adult and Paediatric Emergency Medicine, and Anaesthesia. It is not permitted for you to be a member of the Crash Call team without a current certificate.
  • Satisfactory evidence of Hand Hygiene training.
  • Satisfactory evidence of Manual Handling training.
