An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitious and talented psychologist or behavioural economist to join the School of Psychology as part of the NIHR BTRU in Donor Health and Behaviour with work on an the NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT: England’s blood service) funded ENCOURAGE: ENhancing organ donation COnversations in ethnic minority commUnities thRough emotional engagement) project in collaboration with the University of Bangor, Northumbria University, Action on Blood and NHSB.T 

Increasing the availability of organs for transplantation for a wider diversity of people in cortical to ensure successful delivery of the organ transplantation Programme in England. Furthermore, while people from ethnic minorities have more health conditions requiring transplants than White people, people from ethnic minorities are less likely to register on the organ donor register (ODR) to be a deceased donor (DD), become living donors (LD), or engage in transplant-related research. Family members are also less likely to support DD. Very little is known about why this is. To address this, this work programme or research takes co-designed, arts-based approach to engage people emotionally with these issues, allowing communities to create their own solutions and resource. We will address this through 4 work packages (WPs).  WP1: large online survey of the UK population; WP2: workshops with target communities and professional filmmakers; WP3: producing films; and WP4: experimental evaluation of the films effectiveness.

The post-holder will be based in the School of Psychology at the University of Nottingham and work as part of the BTRU in Donor Health and Behaviour (with the Universities of Cambridge and Oxford), and in collaboration with the University of Bangor, Northumbria University, Action on Blood and NHSBT. The post holder will conduct two quantitative (online surveys and experiments) with the general public, and work with Action on Blood to help co-design and produce community based films. The role holder will have the opportunity to use their initiative and creativity to identify areas for research, develop research methods and extend their research portfolio.

We are seeking a motivated individual interested in health care and health behaviour and capable of analysing a diverse range of data. The post holder will hold a BSc/BA in a relevant area (e.g., Psychology, behavioural economics or equivalent) or have equivalent qualifications/ experience

This is a fixed term, part time (25.38 hours per week) post available until 30/06/2025, with an estimated start date of 01/07/2024. Successful candidate can adjust their days/hours per week as long as it equates to 25.38 hours / 3.5 days per week.
