About the role
We are seeking to appoint a motivated and well-organised virologist to support Professor Zitzmann’s research team in the Department of Biochemistry. The group’s research focuses on developing host targeting anti-viral therapies. The postholder is expected to actively support the team’s various research activities and will be also expected to lead their own project.
The post holder will work on their own research project, shaped in discussion with the PI to align with the successful candidate’s own research interests within the team’s overall research goals, and will be involved in driving forward external collaborations.
This full-time fixed-term post is funded by the Glycobiology Endowment for up to 18 months in the first instance.
About you
Applicants should possess a PhD/DPhil in Virology or a related area and have post-doctoral and lab-managerial work experience. They will have a strong background in infectious viral disease, sound knowledge of health and safety regulations, and will have previously helped managing BSL-2 and BSL-3 facilities.
We are looking for someone with experience in cell biology and molecular virology, expertise in cell culture techniques, and viral assays. The successful applicant will have good organisational and communication skills, as well as attention to detail, and experience with training other group members in relevant techniques.
