An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Associate/Fellow within Mental Health and Clinical Neurosciences, based in Glasgow, focusing on how older adults with normal and impaired hearing make predictions about what someone’s going to say next, or when they’re going to say it.

The post holder will be part of a small team (https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/research/groups/hs-predict/people/people-a… ) and will be involved in a range of research using behavioural paradigms, eye-tracking, electroencephalography, and transcranial magnetic stimulation. You will primarily design, analyse, and write up studies, while overseeing the work of research assistants.

We welcome researchers from a range of backgrounds and fields, and offer training in specific techniques required for the role. You will have the opportunity to gain expertise supervising students and staff as the project progresses. The post is based in the Scottish Section of the University of Nottingham’s Hearing Sciences department located in Glasgow; a thriving research group investigating how people use their hearing, how hearing loss affects conversation behaviour, and how new technologies can help.

The post holder must have or be near to completion of a PhD or equivalent in psycholinguistics, experimental psychology, cognitive science, neuroscience, hearing sciences or the equivalent in professional qualifications and experience in research area. Key requirements are strong statistical skills, experience designing psycholinguistic or hearing experiments, and enthusiasm for collaborating with others. Experience in one or more of the following fields is essential: language cognition/neuroscience, prediction mechanisms, or hearing loss. We emphasise that this post is based in the Glasgow satellite of the University of Nottingham, in the Hearing Sciences – Scottish Section group. Hearing Sciences – Scottish Section is a thriving research group dedicated to understanding and alleviating hearing difficulties, based at Glasgow Royal Infirmary. The section’s research programme includes a broad portfolio of projects seeking to (a) understand real-life auditory behaviour, (b) improve methods of assessing hearing loss and intervention benefit, and (c) propose innovative solutions for hearing problems. You will also collaborate with the University of Edinburgh, University of Glasgow, Linköping University, and the MARCS Institute.
