Are you a researcher interested in the sustainability of manufacturing processes?

The The Mechanics of Materials research group have obtained funding from UKRI IAA to investigate the use of graphene in laser additive manufacturing (AM) technology. The project aims to investigate how graphene can be engineered to make laser printing possible for any material of choice.

We are seeking a researcher to conduct experimental activities involving graphene synthesis and characterisation, feedstock powder doping, laser printing trials, and characterisation of the printed samples.

Duties and responsibilities

Under the supervision of Imperial College Research Fellow, Dr Iuliia Tirichenko, you will:

  • Investigate material combinations to optimise laser printing options for any application.
  • Optimise processing conditions for laser printing.

Essential requirements

  • For appointment as a Research Associate, you will have a PhD in a relevant area, or have equivalent experience. Appointment as a Research Assistant requires a first class degree in a relevant field.
  • You must have practical experience in a broad range of techniques including wet chemical synthesis, powder processing, XPS, SEM, laser processing, 3D-printing.
  • You will have knowledge of graphene manufacturing and chemistry, spectroscopy (XPS, XRD), microscopy (SEM, optical), laser additive manufacturing.

Further information

This is a fixed term position for up to 12 months in the first instance.

This position is not eligible for a hybrid working structure as standard.
