Research Associate/Senior Research Associate in Polymer Engineering

vacanciesin.eu

Applications are invited for the role of Research Associate or Senior Research Associate in Polymer Engineering to explore the development of novel polymer blends suitable for application as semi- or fully-reinforced composite structures within the £3.5M “Designer Liner 2” programme. This research is funded by The Water Services Regulation Authority (Ofwat), to fundamentally redesign the polymeric linings for the next generation of water distribution pipes.

This role sits within the Bristol Composites Institute (BCI) which is a University of Bristol Specialist Research Institute. The Institute has 200+ members and brings together world-leading academics and partners to deliver skills training, research and technology development.

As a member of our team, you will work with other researchers to develop, formulate, deploy, and characterise the properties at every length scale from the molecules of the polymer matrix to the lay-up of final components, using new constituents and new architectures.

  • You are a highly creative, collegiate, and adaptable experimental scientist/engineer.
  • You have completed or are working towards a PhD/EngD in Polymer Chemistry/Polymer Engineering/Materials Science (or closely related discipline).
  • You have an understanding of physico-mechanical testing (or willingness to develop skills in mechanical testing of composites).
  • You have the ability to contribute ideas for projects delivering industrial or academic impact.

For informal queries please contact Prof. Ian Hamerton; [email protected].

To find out more about what it’s like to work in the Faculty of Engineering, and how the Faculty supports people to achieve their potential, please see our staff blog:

Interviews are anticipated to be held on w/c 15 April 2024.

We recently launched our strategy  to 2030 tying together our mission, vision and values.

The University of Bristol aims to be a place where everyone feels able to be themselves and do their best in an inclusive working environment where all colleagues can thrive and reach their full potential. We want to attract, develop, and retain individuals with different experiences, backgrounds and perspectives – particularly people of colour, LGBT+ and disabled people – because diversity of people and ideas remains integral to our excellence as a global civic institution.
