based on full-time€ 3,378 – € 5,331Deadline15 Jun 2025As a Research Engineer, you will join a new team of experts from both UT and TNO to kick-start the roadmap activities of the B/MSC at the UT campus in Enschede. During the start-up, you will coordinate with stakeholders of the B/MSC from both organizations.   • Join R&D activities on microphysiological platform development for drug development and toxicity testing in the laboratories of the University of Twente.
  • Co-develop our (modular) microfluidic technology. This includes prototyping new microfluidic modules, or modify existing designs to allow mass-production, integrate a wide variety of sensors, and built systems (setups) that can do fluidic control and allows for automated experiments.
  • Set up equipment, laboratories needs and operation, and contributing to hands-on laboratory work such as testing the developed system, sensors, readouts etc.

Your profile

  • You are a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and proactive research engineer with a passion for innovation and strong inter-disciplinary skills;
  • You have, or will shortly acquire, a PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related engineering field. Industry experience in the domain of microphysiological systems is a strong plus.
  • You have hands-on experience with bio-microfluidics engineering, polymer microfluidic chip prototyping skills (Computer-Aided Design and micromilling), biosensing and data analysis. Experience with reliability testing and quality control, (chip) cell culture, programming, circuit board design and/or cleanroom manufacturing is a strong plus;
  • You have a proven experience with industrial applications of microphysiological systems with an end user-focused mindset and are curious and creative in providing tailored solutions;
  • You have good team spirit and are able to work independently;
  • You are fluent in English (at least C1) with good communication skills and able to collaborate with industrial and academic partners; Dutch language proficiency is considered a plus.
