Offer DescriptionA position is available for a Research Fellow to join a new, high-impact project at Cork University Business School (CUBS). The successful candidate will lead a team of researchers, working under the guidance of the Principal Investigator, to deliver an innovative research programme focused on supporting and scaling up the just transition to a circular economy in Ireland. The project is funded by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).The Research Fellow will lead the research team in:

• Identifying circular business models, collaborative consumption models, infrastructure needs, social enterprises, financial incentives and systems that could be developed to support and scale-up the transition to the circular economy;
• Exploring ways to develop circular business and collaborative consumption models, infrastructure and social enterprises.
• Assessing the socio-economic and cultural impacts of the transition to the circular economy and bioeconomy at both local/regional and rural/urban levels.
• Designing financial incentives and systems to support industrial transformation, servitisation and consumer behaviour changes.
• Identifying holistic solutions to achieve a just and inclusive transition to the circular economy.
• Developing and implementing research instruments such as surveys, interviews and focus groups.
• Conducting quantitative and qualitative data analysis using software such as Stata and Qualtrics.
• Engaging with key stakeholder groups, including the research community, industry partners, and other collaborators.
• Reporting regularly to the EPA and the project’s steering committee.
• Authoring and co-authoring publications and project reports; and
• Disseminating project outputs at national and international conferences and events.

Expected skillset:We are seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual with a high level of initiative, capable of leading the project and working both independently and collaboratively with other team members. The candidate should have fluent English and excellent project management, communication, organisation, planning and interpersonal skills. The candidate is expected to have 4-6 years postdoctoral research experience. Ideally, the candidate will have experience in circular economy research and a strong understanding of the circular economy landscape in Ireland. Proficiency in both quantitative and qualitative research is essential. The role allows the Research Fellow to assemble a portfolio of independent achievement and render themselves competitive for tenured academic positions or senior scientific roles in industry.The successful candidate will be required:

• To manage and conduct a specific programme of research and scholarship.
• To independently identify research objectives and potential funding sources and to prepare and write bids for funding proposals.
• To have a strong track record in securing external funding, including own salary.
• To disseminate the outcomes of the research, including peer-reviewed academic publications of international standing.
• To take a leading role in the further development of the research programme and in seeking and pursuing appropriate external funding.
• To participate fully in the wider research and scholarly activities of the Research Centre, School and College.
• To have some teaching and mentoring duties.
• To supervise post graduate research students as supervisor or co-supervisor, as appropriate.
• To mentor and assist students and early-stage researchers in the research group, School and College.
• To take responsibility for, manage and conduct administrative and management tasks associated with the research programme.
• To engage in appropriate training and professional development opportunities as required by the Principal Investigator, School or College.
• To carry out any additional duties as may reasonably be required within the general scope and level of the post.

Specific RequirementsEssential Criteria

• A PhD qualification and significant relevant research experience.
• The capacity to work independently on research projects.
• The ability to assess and evaluate concepts/theories in order to develop original solutions and particular knowledge of, and expertise in research methodologies.
• Track record of high-quality peer reviewed publications.
• Experience in postgraduate and Post-Doctoral supervision.
• Strong project management experience.
• Ability to provide leadership to small research teams.
• Ability to secure independent external research funding.
• Ability to contribute to broader organisational and management processes.
• Knowledge transfer and commercialisation experience is highly desirable.

Desirable Criteria

• Proven experience in scenario analysis and conducting energy supply and demand studies including the power and transport sectors.
• Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical insights into policy-relevant outputs.
