We are seeking to appoint an infectious diseases researcher based in The Gambia who will work remotely with Prof Kat Holt’s team (see holtlab.net) to investigate transmission of Klebsiella pneumoniae in neonatal units in Africa using genomic epidemiology. The successful applicant will contribute to clinical interpretation of study data, and help to establish a Community of Practice on investigating pathogen transmission in neonatal units in low-resource settings.

The successful applicant will have a postgraduate degree, ideally a doctoral degree, in a relevant topic, and relevant experience in the clinical investigation of neonatal sepsis etiology, bacterial pathogen transmission, and infection prevention and control, in neonatal care settings in Africa. They will have evidence of excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, evidence of good organizational skills, including effective time management. The salary will be on the Academic Pathway Grade 6 in the range £43,947 – £49,908 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service.  Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available. The post is based in London at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.

The post is part-time (0.2 FTE), funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation until 30 April 2025 and is available from 1 May 2024.
