1British Transport Police (BTP) are recruiting for a Research Project Manager for a permanent contract. The role is paying £36,529.65 plus £3033.56 London Allowance per annum and will be based at our Force Headquarters, London. We are a national police force covering the rail network throughout Great Britain, including the London Underground, ensuring the safety and security of nearly 3 billion passenger journeys and over 100 million tons of freight every year.As a Research Project Manager, you will be required to:

  • Support the Research Lead to develop research and/or feasibility evaluation studies relating to identified gaps in practice development.
  • Design and manage desktop reviews, including practice scoping and literature reviews where relevant.
  • Oversee development of research databases and analytical methodologies.
  • Propose recommendations for research, practice and policy as findings emerge from the projects.
  • Ensure projects meet deadlines and targets and provide effective communication to relevant stakeholders.
  • Liaise with and work in partnership with other organisations, to gather and research information.
  • Build and manage effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders contributing to forums and consultations and associated activities.

  • Educated to Master’s level or equivalent within a social sciences discipline or possess equivalent experience
  • Experience co-leading or managing research and/or evaluation projects
  • Demonstratable knowledge of research methods, ethics and analytic techniques
  • Sound experience in project managing and delivering multiple, concurrent research projects, including primary research
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in relation to research projects and presenting research or evaluation findings to a range of stakeholders, including policing, third sector and academia
  • Excellent quantitative skills, including the inputting, interpretation and write up of statistical data
  • Excellent problem-solving skills; specifically critical thinking skills in a research setting, such as horizon scanning
  • Ability to effectively engage with professionals on many levels to develop programme interventions and/or research and conduct fieldwork.
